‘Close to Home’ is a photographic series of friends, now in their late 30s whom I have been photographing over the last 15 years through a process of scheduled appointments. The series is intentionally posed and sitters actively engage in the act of image making. The series follows the evolving physical maturity of my friends and I draw on the complexities of our relationship, letting changing degrees of openness and intimacy shape each portraits. Working sequentially I am conscious to gestures and poses artist and models naturally draw on in an act of representation.
The project was supported by The Hilton Hotel who in 2006 offered a room for multiple nights at The Trafalgar Hotel in London and photograph with the resulting portraits later exhibited at the hotel, in an exhibition titled "Distance And Proximity". Images from the series have also been exhibited at The Portrait Show at V22 Ashwin Street Gallery, London and published in Camera Austria International. More recently the project was short-listed artist for the Bar-Tur Award 2011.
The portraits have been exhibited in print, book format, and as a slide show. I have also shown portraits together with still lifes, views and landscapes all taken from my immediate surroundings loosely arranged within a sequence.
